Basic Waiver Explanations

Level One Waiver: This is a waiver for persons with developmental disabilities within the state of Ohio. This waiver has a limited amount of money that can be spent on needed services in a waiver span. For adults age 22 or those who are no longer eligible for education services, the limit for services is $62,136.00 each waiver span. For children who are under age 22 and eligible for education services, the limit for services is $41,424.00 each waiver span. Some services have specific funding limits. Services under the Level One Waiver include, but are not limited to Homemaker/Personal Care, Respite Care and Transportation. This waiver is a good fit for people who need minimal paid supports and it relies heavily on natural supports assisting individuals to live in community settings instead of living in a facility.

SELF Waiver: This is a waiver for persons with developmental disabilities within the state of Ohio. This waiver has a limited amount of money that can be spent on needed services in a waiver span. For adults age 22 or those who are no longer eligible for education services, the limit for services is $62,136.00 each waiver span. For children who are under 22 and eligible for education services, the limit for services is $41,424.00 each waiver span. Some services have specific funding limits. Services under the SELF Waiver include, but are not limited to Community Respite, Participant – Directed Goods & Services, Functional Behavioral Assessment, and Clinical/ Therapeutic Intervention. The SELF Waiver is a good fit for people who want to self – direct some of their services. It empowers participants to manage their own services, hire staff, and control budgets. The SELF Waiver allows for individuals to receive services in their community instead of in a facility.

Individual Options Waiver: This is a waiver for persons with developmental disabilities within the state of Ohio. The Individual Options Waiver has a higher funding limit than the other waivers and waiver services are developed in order to meet a person’s individualized needs. Some of the services the Individual Options Waiver covers include Homemaker / Personal Care, Home Modifications, Transportation, Respite Care, and Day Services. This is a more comprehensive waiver which allows individuals to live in community settings instead of living in an institution.
